Congress requests that the state refuse to grant "The Kerala Story" permission to screen

The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth arm of the nation's dominant Communist Party of India (Marxist), also expressed strong disapproval of the impending film, claiming that the "Sangh Parivar was using an even popular medium to humiliate the state and whole community."

The Congress requested the Kerala government on Friday not to grant screening clearance for the contentious movie The Kerala Story, which is scheduled to enter theatres on May 5. The Congress said that the movie was "full of lies and painted the Muslim community in a negative light."

The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth arm of the nation's dominant Communist Party of India (Marxist), also expressed strong disapproval of the impending film, claiming that the "Sangh Parivar was using an even popular medium to humiliate the state and whole community."

The trailer for the movie was released two months ago, which led to demonstrations around the state. The 2016 missing case of 21 people from north Kerala who apparently joined the Islamic State or ISIS is the setting of the movie, which was directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Shah.

Regarding the number of women who might have been involved in these kinds of situations, a teaser for the movie that was released in November drew criticism.

"The movie is full of fabrications. It claims that 32,000 women were converted and moved to regions ruled by the Islamic state. Its trailer provided adequate content hints. According to opposition leader V D Satheesan, Sangh Parivar organizations are behind the attempt to discredit the government and the community.

He asserted that this was a malicious plot to sow seeds of xenophobia and religious hostility, but Keralans will stand as one to oppose such forces. The DYFI also claimed that the intention of the film was to paint the state in a negative way.

"The Sangh Parivar has attempted to paint the state as the center of religious zealots and anti-national forces. This is a part of their scheme to polarise communities, but it will not succeed in a state like Kerala. The state would serve as a haven for democratic and secular ideals, it was declared in a statement.

A previous threat to protest the film came from the Muslim League, a Congress supporter, who said that "it demonized the entire community."
