India is 4th on the list of nations with the highest military expenditures worldwide

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) estimates that India would spend $81.4 billion on its military in 2022, up 6% from the previous year and placing it behind only China, Russia, and the United States as the top three military spenders.

Moscow spent $86.4 billion on its military during the same period as Beijing, which spent an estimated $292 billion. However, the survey found that the US spent $877 billion more on defense than other nations combined.

Saudi Arabia, with yearly spending of $70 billion, completed the top five. In 2022, total military spending rose to $2,240 billion. Sandeep Unnithan, Editor of News9Plus, claimed that India is engaged in a conflict with China on one front and Pakistan on the other.

India's military spending decreased from the previous year by one position. The US continues to spend more on its military than approximately ten to fifteen other nations combined. China dropped from second place after spending around $400 billion, some of which was not stated.

Because of the conflict with Ukraine, Russia moved up to second place in these rankings. According to the analysis, Ukraine has spent close to 40% of its GDP on defense in what is the first European war of attrition since the Second World War.

According to Unnithan, the government has been attempting to reduce expenditures under this heading in order to refocus on military hardware because more than 50% of this expenditure is used to pay employees and pensions.

The world's highest compensation for this position exists here, though. India has one of the largest standing armies in the world, and the cost of its military pensions is double what Pakistan spends on defense overall. The Agniveer plan calls for reducing this expense.

Soldiers enlist in the Army today at the age of 18 and serve for 20 to 30 years. According to Unnithan, the original Indian military system called for troops to serve in limited capacities for between 10 and 15 years before returning to civilian life.

Since a number of years ago, India has remained the second-largest importer of weaponry worldwide. As a result of the export of talent and the funding of overseas research by imports, domestic resources are depleted. Arms made in-country are being used to introduce domestic substitution, nevertheless, to counter this.

With a purchase of Brahmos missiles from the Philippines and a potential order from Indonesia in the works, Indian arms exports are progressing significantly. According to Unnithan, India also provides Armenia with Howitzers.

To keep it from taking on a life of its own, he continued, the global military-industrial complex must be outlawed.

India has a $5 billion export goal for weapons. Unnithan estimates that global sales are in the neighborhood of $100 billion, making this a mere drop in the bucket.

The potential of a "hot" war between Russia and Ukraine as well as a "cold" war with China threatening to seize Taiwan excites the global military-industrial complex. Unnithan says there has never been anything like this.

The Russia-Ukraine War may come to an end as this year draws to a conclusion, but a cold war is anticipated to follow because Ukraine will still have access to Western military supplies.
According to Unnithan, Russia would also rehabilitate its military capabilities, possibly reducing exports.

However, because there are so many battles going on in the world, it is likely that the arms industry will continue to be profitable. According to Unnithan, Ukraine is also waging the first total war since the Second World War by devoting all of its resources to surviving.

Russia has been India's trustworthy ally, demonstrating generosity in the sharing of strategic weaponry like nuclear submarines and long-range bombers that no other country would be willing to do.

Even when the Russia-Ukraine War is over, there is a good chance that the engagement with Russia will go on.
