Jamshedpur experiences violence after a religious flag is allegedly desecrated; Sec. 144 is implemented; and the internet is shut down

 




According to officials speaking to the news agency PTI, clashes broke out in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, after two groups engaged in brick-batting and arson over the 'desecration' of a religious banner. At Shastrinagar in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, prohibition orders pursuant to Section 144 of the CrPC are in effect following shop and car fires during the confrontations. According to ANI, internet services have also been shut off.

According to the police, the tension in the neighborhood had been building since Saturday night, when local organization members discovered that a piece of meat had been attached to a Ram Navami flag. After that, the conflict between the two groups descended into violence as bricks were thrown.

Vijaya Jadhav, the deputy commissioner for the East Singhbhum District, told PTI that some antisocial characters are attempting to disturb the calm and that they need people's help to thwart their scheme. At Shastrinagar in Jamshedpur, two stores and an autorickshaw were set on fire on Sunday, which prompted the police to use tear gas to separate the crowd.

According to Sub-Divisional Officer (Dhalbhum), Piyush Sinha, "Prohibitory Orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were clamped in the area." According to the police, everything is now under control and a few people have been arrested.

According to officials, a sufficient police force has been deployed in Shastrinagar to uphold law and order. Following the altercation, security forces marched with flags in the vicinity of the Kadma police station in Jamshedpur, according to ANI.

A flag march by the forces is underway early this morning. There is local enforcement of Section 144. Until the next order, Internet services are prohibited, Executive Magistrate Jyoti Kumari informed ANI.

Officials claim that there is enough police presence in Shastrinagar to maintain law and order. Security forces marched with flags near the Kadma police station in Jamshedpur after the altercation, according to ANI.

Early this morning, the soldiers are beginning a flag march. Section 144 is enforced on a local level. Internet services are not allowed until the next order, according to Executive Magistrate Jyoti Kumari.
