Sudha Murty, Rishi Sunak's mother-in-law, wins a Padma Bhushan

Author and philanthropist Sudha Murty have received the Padma Bhushan award from President Droupadi Murmu in recognition of her social services. One of the guests at the ceremony was her daughter Akshata Murty, who is wed to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Later, after her mother won the prize for her incredible journey, she posted on Instagram to express her "unspeakable pride."

In response, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated it was a "proud day." As my mother got the Padma Bhushan award from the President of India yesterday in appreciation of her services to social work, I watched with immeasurable pride, Ms. Murty wrote.

The UK First Lady remarked that Sudha Murty's mother had a magnificent journey, despite her daughter's involvement in charitable and volunteer endeavors becoming her most significant influence. She highlighted a number of ways her mother had helped the less fortunate, including founding and running charitable organizations for 25 years, funding numerous literacy programs, and ensuring rapid relief for individuals residing in distant parts of the country after natural catastrophes.

She remarked, "Her example has put giving back, learning, and listening at the center of how I hope to live in @10downingstreet."

The British First Lady went on to describe the occasion as a "moving experience". "My mother does not seek attention. She is constantly moving on to the next thing because my parents instilled in my brother and me the principles of hard work, humility, and selflessness. But seeing her experience a flash of recognition yesterday was such a poignant event, she added.

Her husband, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, responded to the picture by writing, "A proud day," along with two applauding emojis.

The wedding was also attended by Sudha Murty's husband and Infosys founder, NR Narayana Murthy, son Rohan Murty, and her sister, Dr. Sunanda Kulkarni. Sudhar Murty, a philanthropist, and well-known novelist, served as the Infosys Foundation's chairman until December 2021.
