The Kerala train fire that claimed three lives on Sunday night led to the detention of a 27-year-old man by Maharashtra Police on Wednesday in Ratnagiri. Shahrukh Saifi, a resident of Delhi, has been named the suspect.
Based on the information provided by federal authorities, Shahrukh Saifi was apprehended by Maharashtra's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). He will soon be transported to Kerala for additional research.
India Today also met with Shahrukh's father, who thinks that some individuals may have duped and indoctrinated his son. Shaheen Bagh in Delhi is home to Shahrukh and his family.
Shahrukh's father Fakkruddin (46) went to Delhi Police on April 2 to report his son missing because he had yet to hear from him since March 31. On March 31, Shahrukh last communicated with his family. Since then, no one could find him, but the Maharashtra ATS caught him in Ratnagiri earlier today.
"He's been falsely accused by some. My son has no criminal background and is not a member of any organizations. We will watch to see how the police inquiry develops, added Fakkruddin. In Shaheen Bagh, a squad of the Delhi Police and Kerala Police searched Shahrukh's home.
