Balasore people come up in large numbers to give blood to train accident victims

 


Following the deadliest railway catastrophe since independence, which left at least 238 people dead, people waited up to donate blood for the injured in Balasore.

Officials report that a train collision and derailment involving the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a cargo train have resulted in 238 fatalities and about 900 injuries.

People from the adjacent neighborhoods flocked to the scene as soon as the tragedy occurred and immediately began to work on the rescue effort and other volunteer services.

Police officers and locals volunteered to give blood at several hospitals all night, according to officials. According to reports, more than 2,000 people arrived at the Balasore Medical College and Hospital in the middle of the night to give blood and help the injured.

In the meantime, due to the railway accident, the government of Odisha has proclaimed Saturday to be a day of sorrow.

Social media videos depict crowds lining up in front of hospitals to where the injured were admitted.

Chief Secretary Jena praised the volunteers who gave blood to the accident victims in their time of need and thanked them for their noble effort.

"Here at Balasore, 500 units of blood were collected overnight. 900 units are currently in stock. This will assist in the care of accident victims. I owe a debt of gratitude to each and every volunteer who gave blood for such a worthy cause, Jena tweeted.

200 ambulances, 50 buses, and 45 mobile health units, in addition to 1,200 employees, were working at the disaster site, according to Bhubaneswar officials. Tractors were among the several types of vehicles used to transport the bodies to the hospitals.

Around 7 p.m. on Friday, the Railway Ministry ordered an investigation into the train collision, which according to records is the fourth deadliest in India. It occurred close to the Bahanaga Baazar station in the Balasore district, roughly 250 km south of Kolkata and 170 km north of Bhubaneswar.
