On Friday night near Balasore, Odisha, three trains crashed with one another. The mishap happened close to the Bahangabazaar station. The Army and NDRF forces sprang into action right away, and rescue and relief operations got underway.
How did the mishap occur?
The Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, and a cargo train were all involved in the disaster.
The Bengaluru-Howrah Express first derailed, causing numerous coaches to fall into the nearby track. The train was traveling towards Howrah. Next, the Coromandel headed for Chennai collided with the Bengaluru-Howrah Express's wrecked carriages. The Coromandel Express coaches also derailed as a result of this. This train's derailed carriages then collided with the goods train, causing a terrible catastrophe.
Following the collision, 17 coaches from the two trains collectively derailed.
The Odisha government has so far reported 238 fatalities and 650 injuries. The state government added that the fact that both trains crashed in the exact same location explained why the tragedy was of such a large size. The accident occurred at the Bahanga Baazar station, which is 170 kilometers from Bhubaneswar and 250 km south of Kolkata.
It is still unclear exactly how the Bengaluru-Howrah Express, the first train, derailed. A thorough investigation will be carried out to determine precisely how the trains derailed and the catastrophe occurred, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also anticipated at the crash site. The accident victims will be met by him.
The Railway has previously disclosed compensation for individuals who were hurt as well as for the surviving family members of those who perished in the terrible incident. Following the catastrophe, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has proclaimed a day of national mourning.
