Four-lane bridge in Bhagalpur, Bihar, falls in a matter of seconds

On Sunday evening, the 3160-meter-long bridge's foundation in Bhagalpur, Bihar, which Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid, fell for the second time. The Aguwan-Sultanganj bridge, which was still being built, collapsed in a matter of seconds while locals recorded recordings of the event.

The Rs 1,710 crore bridge, Kumar's dream project, was partially destroyed when 100 meters of it collapsed into the Ganga River. The goal of the four-lane bridge was to link the districts of Khagaria and Bhagalpur.

Around 6 p.m. on Sunday, a bridge that was still being built collapsed, although no casualties have been identified as of yet.

Local government has reportedly been dispatched to the scene, and the "Pul Nirman Nigam" has been requested to file a report, according to Bhagalpur District Development Council officer Kumar Anurag.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, Nitish Kumar has mandated a high-level investigation into the bridge collapse and warned that anybody found responsible will face harsh punishment.

The leader of the opposition, Vijay Kumar Sinha, claimed that the Chief Minister of Bihar's attitude, which had resulted in "political instability, administrative anarchy, and corruption," was to blame for the collapse.

In a jab at Nitish Kumar's efforts to bring the opposition parties together in front of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Sinha claimed that the state's political system is disintegrating while the state administration continues to discuss opposition unity.

"We anticipated that the bridge would be inaugurated by November or December of this year. But it's unfortunate how it fell apart. According to Lalit Narayan Mandal, a Janata Dal-United (JDU) MLA from Sultanganj, "There must be an investigation into the incident because there was some error."
