Google announced the global launch of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro on October 4, and ahead of the official release, the company is providing insights into the design of these smartphones. An official page for the Pixel 8 Pro offers a 360-degree preview of the device. Notably, it appears to have a design similar to its predecessor, the Pixel 7 Pro, featuring a horizontal camera bar on the back and a hole-punch display on the front. The rear of the phone retains the three-camera setup.
While the page provides information about the exterior design, Google has not yet officially disclosed the specifications. This continuity in design makes sense, as Google is likely trying to maintain the focus on the Pixel Fold, its first foldable smartphone already available in select markets.
The page also showcases three color options for the Pixel 8 Pro: Sky (blue), Porcelain (white), and Licorice (black). The bezels on the front screen appear slimmer, and the rear camera bar now matches the body color, giving the phone a more premium and minimalistic look. Furthermore, Google has revealed that the Pixel 8 Pro includes a temperature sensor on the back, which, when combined with software and AI-related enhancements, could introduce new features.
Based on leaks and rumors, the Pixel 8 Pro is expected to feature a 6.7-inch QHD+ 120Hz LTPO OLED display. The front may house an 11-megapixel selfie camera, while the rear camera setup is likely to include a 50-megapixel OIS-enabled primary camera, a 64-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 49-megapixel telephoto lens. The phone's construction may incorporate a combination of glass and metal materials, similar to the Pixel 7 Pro.
Under the hood, the Pixel 8 Pro could be powered by a Google Tensor G3 SoC and a 4,950mAh battery with 27W wired charging. The phone is expected to continue the trend of not including a charger in the box. Other anticipated features include a Titan security chip, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner.
It's worth noting that the Pixel 8 Pro's price is expected to be higher than its predecessor, the Pixel 7 Pro, which launched at Rs 84,999.
In the coming weeks, Google and other smartphone brands are gearing up for the release of their next-generation flagship devices. Apple, for instance, is set to launch the iPhone 15 series on September 12.
