Airlines offer the opportunity to reschedule flights due to the G20 Summit's congested Delhi airspace

The Delhi airport is expected to experience disruptions in flight schedules over a three-day period starting from September 8 due to the G20 Summit, and airlines are offering customers the option to reschedule their travel dates without charges.

According to officials, airlines are making necessary adjustments to their flight operations, including the cancellation or rescheduling of select flights. Approximately 120 flights are anticipated to be affected during the September 8-10 timeframe.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi, managed by DIAL, is the largest airport in the country, handling approximately 1,300 flights daily.

DIAL reported on August 26 that airlines had requested the cancellation of 80 departing and arriving domestic flights during the three days from September 8. This is due to the elaborate regulations on vehicular movement expected to be implemented by the Delhi Traffic Police in light of the G20 Summit, which is likely to affect access routes to the IGI Airport.

Vistara mentioned on a platform that it had canceled selected flights and rescheduled others due to the G20 Summit. The airline is offering a one-time waiver of the change fee for rescheduling bookings on these dates and is assisting affected customers with rescheduling or refunds.

Air India announced that traffic restrictions would be in place in Delhi between September 7 and 11. Passengers with confirmed tickets for flights to or from Delhi on these dates are offered a one-time waiver of applicable charges if they wish to change their travel dates or flights.

SpiceJet warned that the G20 Summit could result in road closures and diversions, potentially causing longer travel times to the airport. The airline advised passengers to arrive at the airport in a timely manner and noted that check-in counters close 60 minutes before departure.

The G20 Summit is scheduled for September 9 and 10, and IGIA is operated by the Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), led by the GMR Group. DIAL previously stated that the airport has ample parking space for aircraft during the summit period.
