On Monday, Karan Singh, a prominent Congress leader hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, voiced his strong disapproval of the comments made by Udhayanidhi Stalin concerning 'Sanatan Dharma'. In a written communication, the seasoned politician lamented the statement issued by the Tamil Nadu leader, deeming it profoundly regrettable.
Singh went on to emphasize that an extensive multitude of individuals, numbering in the millions, adhere to the principles and teachings of Sanatan Dharma to varying degrees. He also took the opportunity to remind Udhayanidhi Stalin of the fact that some of the most eminent and revered sanctuaries of Sanatan Dharma are situated within the geographical confines of Tamil Nadu. He elucidated that the temples dedicated to Sanatan Dharma can be encountered in numerous locales across the state, including but not limited to Thanjavur, Srirangam, Thiruvannamalai, Chidambaram, Madurai, Suchindram, Rameshwaram, and various other places.
Furthermore, Singh expressed his profound astonishment that a responsible and accountable statesman like Udhayanidhi Stalin would make such a statement. He categorically asserted that the statement in question was utterly unacceptable to him. While Singh maintained the highest respect for the rich tapestry of Tamil culture, he unequivocally stated that he could not endorse or condone the statements issued by Udhayanidhi Stalin.
The son of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu had caused a significant uproar with his remarks, which called for the "eradication of Sanatan Dharma." Consequently, he found himself subject to substantial criticism from various quarters, including leaders affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and those within the INDIA bloc. Despite the mounting criticism, he has, thus far, refrained from issuing any form of apology for his actions.
In response to the Tamil Nadu leader's remarks, the Union Home Minister launched a scathing attack on the parties belonging to the INDIA bloc, particularly targeting the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Congress. He alleged that their engagement with such statements was a calculated move aimed at undermining 'Sanatan Dharma' for the sake of electoral politics and garnering votes.
Meanwhile, the Congress party has distanced itself from Udhayanidhi Stalin's remarks, and now, a seasoned and respected leader like Karan Singh has come forth to directly censure the statements made by Udhayanidhi Stalin.
