The riveting cinematic battle between "Gadar 2" and "Jawan" for the coveted title of the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time has kept film enthusiasts on the edge of their seats. Recently, the eminent film trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, unveiled the latest domestic box office figures, heralding "Gadar 2," featuring the charismatic duo of Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, as the new reigning champion, having amassed an astounding ₹524.75 crore nett in India.
Shah Rukh Khan's adrenaline-pumping spy action thriller, "Pathaan," which had graced the silver screen in January of the same year, had proudly held the distinction of being the top-grossing Hindi movie for an extended period. However, the buzz in the film fraternity revolved around which film would emerge triumphant in dethroning "Pathaan." Would it be Shah Rukh Khan's latest blockbuster, "Jawan," which premiered on September 7, or would Sunny Deol's "Gadar 2," released on August 11, seize the coveted top spot? The suspense lingered until Taran Adarsh, in a momentous X (formerly Twitter) post, revealed, "Gadar 2 crosses lifetime business of Pathaan's Hindi version [ ₹524.53 crore] in India… Now no. 1 HIGHEST GROSSING FILM in Hindi in India…"
Delving deeper into the staggering success of "Gadar 2," Taran Adarsh shared an intricate breakdown of its box office journey, showcasing the film's resilience and enduring appeal. The film's box office trajectory unfolded as follows: Week 1: ₹284.63 crore, Week 2: ₹134.47 crore, Week 3: ₹63.35 crore, Week 4: ₹27.55 crore, Week 5: ₹7.28 crore, Week 6: ₹4.72 crore, and Weekend 7: ₹2.75 crore [till Wednesday]. A cumulative total of ₹524.75 crore nett in India showcased the film's undeniable dominance.
Meanwhile, "Jawan" embarked on its own spectacular journey, gradually inching its way toward the illustrious ₹600 crore club in India. Reports from Sacnilk.com indicated that the film had already amassed an impressive ₹579.93 crore net across various languages, including Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
It's worth noting that "Gadar 2" serves as a highly anticipated sequel to the iconic film "Gadar: Ek Prem Katha," which had graced cinema screens back in 2001. In this cinematic masterpiece, Sunny Deol assumed the role of Tara Singh, an Indian truck driver, while Ameesha Patel portrayed the character of Sakeena, a Pakistani woman.
Earlier this month, the makers of "Gadar 2" hosted an extravagant success party in Mumbai, drawing a star-studded guest list that included luminaries such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Varun Dhawan, Dharmendra, Sidharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani, and Shilpa Shetty, among many others.
