Kanpur government employees are dismissed after selling official documents to acquire alcohol

In Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur, a shocking incident of government office negligence transpired when an employee at the Vikas Bhavan resorted to selling official files to fund his alcohol purchases. The repercussions of this act spiralled into chaos within the department, raising concerns about the security and integrity of vital documents.

The distressing situation unfolded when a sanitation worker, part of the team hired by the Uttar Pradesh administration for upkeep, confessed to selling numerous government files in a bid to accumulate funds for his alcohol addiction. This admission sent shockwaves throughout the department, as it became apparent that several files of critical importance had been carelessly discarded.

The gravity of the situation prompted the Chief District Officer to take immediate action by terminating the employment of the sanitation worker. Additionally, a formal complaint was lodged with the local authorities to address this serious misconduct.

The incident came to light when an employee from Uttar Pradesh's Non-Conventional Energy Development Agency (Neda) caught the sanitation worker red-handed, filling a sack with government files. Subsequently, government personnel intervened, confiscating all the files and subjecting the sanitation worker to a stern reprimand.

This incident unfolded within the confines of the computer room of the Social Welfare Department, where bundles of applications for elderly pension assistance had mysteriously gone missing over a period of time, despite diligent efforts to locate them.

What further compounded the issue was the fact that government files had been surreptitiously sold to scrap dealers over several days without anyone within the department taking notice. In response to this disconcerting revelation, department officials accompanied the sanitation worker to a shop where he had previously disposed of the pilfered files.

Consequently, a formal case was registered against the accused worker, leading to his apprehension by the authorities. Although some of the files were successfully recovered from the shop, questions have arisen about the department's apparent lapse in oversight and security, necessitating an inquiry to determine the extent of the negligence involved.
