Renowned author and the chairperson of Infosys Foundation, Sudha Murty, took the step of lodging a formal complaint on Sunday, highlighting the alleged inappropriate usage of her name in relation to two distinct incidents occurring in the United States. This complaint was officially submitted by her dedicated executive assistant, Mamata Sanjay, who acted on her behalf.
The initial incident revolved around an invitation extended to Sudha Murty to participate in the momentous 50th-anniversary celebration of the Kannada Koota of Northern California (KKNC). Despite her regrettable inability to accept this invitation owing to prior commitments and scheduling constraints, Murty was dismayed to discover on August 30th that promotional materials for the event had erroneously and misleadingly portrayed her as the chief guest.
Furthermore, the KKNC organizers relayed to Murty's office that an individual named Lavanya, purporting to be her personal assistant, had purportedly confirmed her presence at the gathering, which was, in reality, not the case.
The second incident involved another individual, identified as Shruthi, who allegedly solicited funds amounting to $40 from unsuspecting individuals under the false pretense that Sudha Murty would be participating in a 'meet-and-greet' event scheduled for September 26 in the United States. This misleading information came to the attention of Murty's office when they unexpectedly encountered promotional material advertising the event.
In response to these troubling allegations, the Bengaluru Police took immediate action by registering a formal case against the individuals involved, namely Lavanya and Shruthi. The charges brought against them encompass serious offenses such as impersonation and unauthorized event organization, which fall under the purview of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code.
Presently, the police are diligently conducting an investigation to ascertain the current whereabouts of these two individuals, who may be located either in the United States or within India.
Sudha Murty, in light of these disconcerting developments, has expressed her desire to obtain a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) to facilitate further follow-up on this matter.
