FIR was filed in UP against Udhayanidhi Stalin of the DMK and Priyank Kharge of the Congress

In a recent development, an FIR (First Information Report) has been officially registered in this location against Udhayanidhi Stalin, a prominent member of the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) party, and Priyank Kharge, the son of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. The allegations in question pertain to the alleged offense of outraging religious sentiments, according to information provided by the police on Wednesday.

The case against Stalin has arisen primarily from his statements advocating for the eradication of Sanatan Dharma, a term often associated with Hinduism. Additionally, Priyank Kharge is implicated in endorsing and supporting Stalin's remarks, as reported by the police.

These legal actions have been initiated under specific sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 295 A, which addresses deliberate and malicious actions intended to outrage religious sentiments, and Section 153 A, which pertains to the promotion of enmity between different religious groups. These charges have been formally filed at the Civil Lines Police Station located in the state of Uttar Pradesh's Rampur district, with the registration taking place on Tuesday.

The foundation for the FIR stems from a complaint filed by two lawyers, namely Harsh Gupta and Ram Singh Lodhi. Their grievance centers around media reports covering Udhayanidhi Stalin's remarks, which they contend have caused them emotional distress and have deeply affected their religious sentiments.

It is worth noting that the controversy emerged after Stalin, during a public event in Tamil Nadu held on a Saturday, made statements drawing a comparison between Sanatan Dharma and certain diseases such as dengue and malaria. These comments triggered a significant backlash from various political parties, most notably the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), which has called upon the Congress to condemn Stalin's statements unequivocally.
