Don Gummer and Meryl Streep had a covert split for more than six years

Meryl Streep's long-lasting marriage to Don Gummer appears to have hit a rough patch, with reports emerging that they have been living apart for six years, a surprising development that comes after 45 years of being together.

According to sources cited by Page Six, the couple, who wed four and a half decades ago, has kept their separation under wraps. A representative for Meryl Streep has verified this revelation, stating, "Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart."

The last public appearance of the former couple occurred in 2018 when they graced the Academy Awards. Meryl Streep was a nominee in the Best Actress category for her role in Steven Spielberg's film, "The Post."

The backstory of their relationship is rather intriguing. It was initially rumoured that Meryl Streep was in a relationship with John Cazale, a renowned actor known for his roles in iconic films such as 'The Godfather' and 'The Deer Hunter.' Tragically, John succumbed to lung cancer in 1978. Shortly after this painful loss, Meryl, who was grieving, crossed paths with Don Gummer. Remarkably, they decided to tie the knot just six months later. Throughout their marriage, they welcomed four children into their family: a son named Henry Wolfe, as well as three daughters, Mamie Gummer, Grace Gummer, and Louisa Jacobson.

During her acceptance speech at the 2012 Academy Awards, Meryl Streep expressed her gratitude to Don by stating, "First, I'm going to thank Don because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech they play him out with the music, and I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives, you've given me."

As for Meryl Streep's professional pursuits, her most recent appearance was in the third season of 'Only Murders In The Building'.
