Parliamentary special session on Maratha quota is demanded by Uddhav Sena MPs

Shiv Sena (UBT) Lok Sabha Members of Parliament (MPs), Omprakash Rajenimbalkar and Rajan Vichare, have addressed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the convening of a special session of Parliament to deliberate upon the requests made by the Maratha and Dhangar communities concerning reservations.

Omprakash Rajenimbalkar represents the constituency of Dharashiv (formerly Osmanabad), while Rajan Vichare serves Thane.

In their letter, the MPs underscored their repeated calls within the House to provide reservations to the Maratha and Dhangar communities. They highlighted that Marathas across every village in Maharashtra are conducting hunger strikes alongside Manoj Jarange. Additionally, the Dhangar community, which has secured reservation benefits in other regions of the country, is engaging in peaceful protests in Maharashtra to secure their own reservation.

The letter stated, "The government has not been able to find the right solution till now. Considering this, a special session of Parliament should be called as early as possible." They emphasized the urgency of the situation.

Rajan Vichare, in his separate letter, lauded the historical legacy of the Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and pointed out that the Maratha community has organized 57 morchas in support of their quota demand.

Furthermore, Vichare expressed concern about the distressing state of affairs, including the tragic loss of lives among the youth. He urged the Prime Minister to acknowledge the tense situation prevailing in Maharashtra.

To provide context, the Maratha community is seeking reservations in government jobs and educational institutions under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. On the other hand, the Dhangar (shepherd) community is advocating for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
