Congress leader Rahul Gandhi commemorated the anniversary of his grandmother Indira Gandhi's demise by emphasizing her significant role as a source of strength in his life. He expressed his unwavering commitment to safeguarding India for which she made immense sacrifices.
Indira Gandhi, who remains India's sole female prime minister to date, tragically lost her life in 1984 when she was assassinated by her own bodyguards.
In a heartfelt tribute penned in Hindi on the occasion of Indira Gandhi's death anniversary, Rahul Gandhi conveyed, "You are my strength, my grandmother."
He further pledged, "I will perpetually guard India for which you relinquished everything. Your memory resides within me, deeply embedded in my heart," as he shared on X.
Rahul Gandhi's cousin and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament, Varun Gandhi, also paid his respects to Indira Gandhi. He extolled her as a symbol of unparalleled courage and tenacious struggle and as a pioneering advocate of democratic socialism.
Varun Gandhi lauded his grandmother's ability to make resolute decisions while also exhibiting remarkable, gentle maternal compassion. He affectionately referred to her as the 'Mother of the Nation.'
It is noteworthy that Rahul Gandhi is the offspring of Indira Gandhi's elder son, Rajiv, while Varun Gandhi is the son of her younger son, Sanjay.
