"Accused of much worse": A lawyer's enigmatic statement amidst the cash-for-query controversy

In a rather enigmatic online post, Jai Anant Dehadrai, a Supreme Court lawyer known for his allegations against Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament and former partner Mahua Moitra, made a statement amidst the ongoing cash-for-query controversy.

Taking to social media, Jai Anant Dehadrai, whose accusations against Mahua Moitra initiated the cash-for-query controversy, shared a cryptic message. In this post, he alluded to the individuals accused of corruption and jeopardizing national security, suggesting that they were guilty of something even more egregious. He clarified that this statement did not pertain to the theft of his dog, accompanied by an image of his Rottweiler named Henry. Notably, the lawyer refrained from explicitly naming anyone involved.

The three-year-old Rottweiler, Henry, has become the focal point of a custody dispute between Mahua Moitra and Jai Dehadrai, whom she has described as her estranged former partner.

It is worth recalling that last month, BJP Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey presented a letter from Jai Anant Dehadrai, in which allegations were made against Moitra, suggesting that she was soliciting "cash" and "gifts" from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for raising specific queries in Parliament. Dehadrai's letter claimed to possess "incontrovertible evidence" of the Trinamool MP accepting bribes from Hiranandani with the purpose of posing questions about the Adani Group, which happens to be a competitor of Hiranandani Group, with the apparent aim of targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Initially, the Hiranandani Group refuted these allegations, asserting that it did not engage in the "business of politics." However, they later made a surprising about-face by presenting a significant 'affidavit' in response.

In a recent exclusive interview with India Today TV, Mahua Moitra addressed the controversy by stating that the only items she had ever received from Darshan Hiranandani as gifts were a scarf, lipstick, and eye shadow. She emphasized the nature of her relationship with Hiranandani as that of a close personal friend.

Regarding Jai Dehadrai, Moitra contended that the accusations originated from an individual with whom she had a well-established and acrimonious personal relationship and who was currently involved in a legal custody battle over a pet. She acknowledged that the situation might sound absurd but insisted that it was the factual reality.

Additionally, Moitra announced her intention to appear before the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha, in accordance with the committee's directive related to the cash-for-query issue. She made this announcement on a social media platform (referred to as X), sharing a two-page letter in which she expressed her desire to "cross-examine" both Dehadrai and Hiranandani.

Notably, Dehadrai and Dubey had already provided their statements to the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee, which is chaired by BJP Member of Parliament Vinod Kumar Sonkar.
