The US says it is "deeply disturbed" by the stabbing attack on an Indian student


The United States expressed deep concern regarding the disturbing incident involving a 24-year-old Indian student who was stabbed at a gym in Indiana state, and the victim, identified as P Varun Raj, currently remains in critical condition. According to reports by the news agency ANI, P Varun Raj, a Computer Science student, was attacked with a knife at the gym on October 29 by the assailant, Jordan Andrade, also 24 years old. The authorities are actively investigating the motive behind this attack.

A spokesperson from the State Department conveyed the United States' sentiments and expressed wishes for Varun Raj's swift and complete recovery. The spokesperson stated, "We are deeply disturbed by reports of a brutal attack against Indian graduate student Varun Raj Pucha. We wish him a full recovery from his injuries. We defer to local law enforcement for any questions about this ongoing case," in a statement provided to ANI.

Following the stabbing, Jordan Andrade, the perpetrator of the attack, was apprehended and is currently facing charges related to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and attempted murder.

Due to the severe nature of Varun Raj's injuries, he has been relocated to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. As of the latest updates, after three days of medical treatment, Varun Raj remains on life support and has experienced significant neurological impairment. It is anticipated that he will endure permanent disability, possibly resulting in partial or complete vision loss and weakness on his left side, according to sources cited by news agency PTI.
