The National Center for Seismology reported a seismic event measuring 4.6 on the magnitude scale that impacted Myanmar, situated approximately 208 kilometres away from Ukhrul in Manipur. This occurrence, registered around 10 pm, took place at a depth of 120 kilometres.
Remarkably, this was the second seismic activity recorded in Myanmar on the same day. Earlier, at 1:47 pm, a 3.5 magnitude quake was observed at a distance of 226 kilometres from Dibrugarh in Assam.
Manipur is positioned in a seismic zone of high vulnerability (Zone V) according to India's seismic zone map. Given the region's geological structure and geographical positioning, periodic tremors are a commonly experienced phenomenon.
Highlighting the seismic activity prevalent in the area, in November, the Churachandpur district in Manipur experienced an earthquake measuring 3.1 on the magnitude scale.
