All IPL games are spectacles, just like the Olympics: Justin Langer is ecstatic to become head coach of LSG

Former Australian head coach Justin Langer has expressed admiration for the Indian Premier League (IPL), likening it to the Olympic Games and emphasizing the spectacle each game represents.

Recently appointed as the head coach for the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the upcoming 2024 season, Langer joins the team following a change in management, departing from the group that included Andy Flower and Gautam Gambhir. With a decorated career that includes triumphs in the T20 World Cup and the Big Bash with Australia, Langer disclosed his discussions about the IPL with Ricky Ponting and Tom Moody, both esteemed figures in cricket.

Reflecting on his conversations, Langer highlighted Ponting's enthusiasm by recounting his experiences with the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, underscoring the immense regard he holds for the tournament. Additionally, he spoke fondly of his close friend Tom Moody's extensive involvement in the IPL, expressing his excitement at the prospect of being part of such an esteemed event.

In a video shared by LSG, Langer further elaborated on his admiration for the IPL, likening its magnitude to that of the Olympic Games. He praised the IPL's widespread popularity, noting its remarkable reception and extensive support, not merely limited to the stadiums but resonating across India and globally. Langer conveyed his immense thrill at the opportunity to engage with such a monumental sporting spectacle.

Langer's coaching journey has seen him restore trust in the Australian team following the notorious Sandpaper Gate incident in 2018. Though recognized for his no-nonsense approach, he led Australia until their victorious 2021 T20 World Cup campaign. However, disagreements arose between the players and the coach, ultimately leading to Langer stepping down, despite a compelling 4-0 triumph against England in the Ashes Down Under.

Following Langer's departure, Australia has seen success under the leadership of Andrew McDonald, clinching the WTC 2023 and the ODI World Cup titles.
