On Sunday, Bhagwati Prasad Gopalika officially took over the role of Chief Secretary of West Bengal, succeeding HK Dwivedi, whose tenure concluded on December 31. Bhagwati Prasad Gopalika, a seasoned 1989-batch IAS officer currently serving as the Home Secretary, assumed the new position following an announcement made by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during a Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.
Bhagwati Prasad Gopalika brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in various capacities in departments such as transport, animal resources development, and personnel and administrative reforms. His appointment is part of the government's ongoing administrative reshuffle.
In the same reshuffle, Nandini Chakraborty, an IAS officer, was appointed as the new Home Secretary of the West Bengal government. Notably, Nandini Chakraborty is the second female officer to hold this prestigious position in the state, following in the footsteps of Lina Chakraborty.
Before her current role, Nandini Chakraborty served as the Principal Secretary to the Bengal Governor, showcasing her experience and administrative acumen. The appointments signify a strategic effort to strengthen the state's administrative machinery under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
