Activists affiliated with the If Not Now organization, a Jewish group advocating for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, took to a busy Los Angeles highway during the Wednesday morning rush hour, causing significant traffic disruptions, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.
The protesters, donning black shirts with the slogan "Not in Our Name," strategically positioned themselves in a sit-down demonstration on the southbound lanes of the 110 Freeway downtown, effectively bringing the normal flow of commuter traffic to a standstill around 9 am. Alongside their physical presence, the demonstrators prominently displayed placards insisting on Israel ceasing its military operations in Gaza.
Footage broadcasted on KCAL-TV captured instances of frustrated motorists engaging in confrontations with the protesters before law enforcement intervention.
Approximately 75 protesters faced detainment as California Highway Patrol officers initiated the clearance of the highway around 10 a.m., marking the end of the demonstration, according to the highway patrol's statement.
The global protests against Israel's military campaign in Gaza have manifested in various cities worldwide, with the Los Angeles demonstration being one of the expressions of dissent against the ongoing conflict.
