On December 6, in the Jyoti Nagar area of Delhi, a commendable act of bravery unfolded when a 25-year-old man, who happens to have Down Syndrome, thwarted a robbery attempt at his residence. The incident occurred during daylight hours, and the young man, Nishant Chaudhary, employed a toy gun to intimidate two intruders who had broken into his house while he was alone.
According to a senior police official, a case has been formally registered in connection with the incident, which transpired while Nishant's parents were away at their respective workplaces. Satpal Singh, Nishant's father and a Ministry of Railways employee, provided an account of the events.
Singh explained that around 1:34 pm on December 6, as he was at his office and his wife was away, two individuals forcibly entered their premises. These intruders initially broke the lock and later secured the gate from inside, indicating their intent to commit burglary. Fortunately, Nishant, who possesses a toy gun resembling a real one, took swift action.
Singh recounted the sequence of events, stating, "I had kept Rs 2,000 in the living room for the maid. The accused took the money and went inside towards the lobby, where my son was present. He thought that his mother had come. But on realizing they were robbers, he pointed his gun towards the accused. They got scared and ran away from the house. The whole episode unfolded within 45 seconds."
The family suspects the involvement of a maid who was reportedly near the scene during the incident. Singh revealed that, upon reviewing CCTV footage, it appeared that the perpetrators entered the house as if it were a premeditated act. A swift response ensued, with Singh immediately informing his wife and coordinating efforts to address the situation. A case has been registered at the Jyoti Nagar police station, and multiple teams have been mobilized to apprehend the accused individuals, as reported by the police officer. The incident underscores the significance of personal security measures and the need for swift police action to ensure the safety of residents.
