The Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has scheduled a protest near Channamma Circle in Belagavi at 3:30 pm on Friday, advocating for justice in the case of a Dalit woman. The woman was forcefully dragged from her residence, stripped naked, fastened to a pole, and subjected to physical assault by the family of a girl with whom her son had eloped in the Belagavi district.
Moreover, a specialized five-member BJP women’s panel will be dispatched to Belagavi to conduct an in-depth investigation into the incident. The panel aims to compile a comprehensive report, which will subsequently be presented to the party's national president, JP Nadda.
State BJP Chief BY Vijayendra emphasized, “Tomorrow (Saturday), a team from the Centre will visit Belagavi. Four MPs, including Aparajita Sarangi, Sunita Duggal, Ranjeeta Koli, and Locket Chatterjee, will visit Belagavi on Saturday and speak to the victim’s family.”
Additionally, the BJP is planning a statewide protest on Saturday to address the issue, according to Vijayendra.
The disturbing incident occurred last Sunday when the family of a girl, involved in a relationship with the Dalit woman’s son, reacted vehemently to the news of their daughter eloping. The family promptly rushed to the boy’s residence, leading to the violent assault on the woman.
