Trinamool Congress leader Tapas Roy refuted any connection with Lalit Jha, purportedly the 'mastermind' behind the Parliament security breach, dismissing the allegations a day after BJP West Bengal unit head Sukanta Majumdar shared a photo of Roy and Lalit, insinuating a close association between the two.
Roy, addressing the accusations, questioned the BJP's understanding of the gravity of the situation. He stated that he was unaware of Lalit and emphasized the need for any credible evidence supporting the claims made by the BJP. Roy expressed his intent to take legal action in response to the matter.
In response to the photo shared by BJP, the TMC highlighted the role of BJP's Mysuru MP, Pratap Simha, alleging that he facilitated passes for intruders who smuggled smoke bombs into Parliament. TMC Youth Congress General Secretary Saumya Bakshi, seen in the controversial photo, confirmed his identity but asserted his lack of knowledge about Jha, emphasizing the difficulty of recognizing everyone who takes a selfie.
The Parliament security breach, occurring on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, involved two individuals jumping into the Lok Sabha chamber, releasing colored smoke, and shouting slogans. The intruders were promptly subdued by MPs. Lalit Mohan Jha, identified as the key accused, was arrested, and charges of terrorism under UAPA were filed against the four suspects. Additionally, eight security personnel at Parliament were suspended in connection with the incident, which coincided with the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 terror attack on Parliament.
