Man's half-eaten corpse discovered in Bandipur is the third person the tiger has murdered in a month

In the Kundakere range of Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka, a distressing discovery unfolded on Tuesday as the partially devoured remains of a 54-year-old man named Basava were found. Basava had ventured into the forest on Sunday, and when he failed to return to his village, his family initiated search efforts within the forest.

Today, the family members, unfortunately, stumbled upon the partially consumed body of the missing 54-year-old. This incident marks the third human fatality resulting from a tiger attack in Bandipur in the past month.

Ramesh Kumar, the Director of Bandipur Tiger Reserve, informed the news agency PTI that their teams had undertaken an arduous trek of nearly three kilometers inside the forest area to locate the body. What they uncovered was a body that had been partially consumed by an animal, with only the head, hand, and upper back recovered thus far.

While suspicions lean towards a tiger attack, efforts are underway to trace other parts of the body to definitively determine whether the man was indeed attacked by a tiger or another species. The ongoing investigation underscores the complex challenges associated with wildlife-human interactions and the critical need for vigilance in these natural habitats.
