In this Tamil Nadu district, students arrive to school in boats as flooding persists

After a week-long closure of schools due to persistent rain and flooding caused by Cyclone Michaung in parts of Tamil Nadu's Thiruvallur district, the educational institutions reopened, showcasing students in their uniforms using boats to traverse the waterlogged areas and safely reach their schools. The scene depicted not only the determination of these students to resume their education but also the challenging conditions they faced.

As the flooding persisted in the Thiruvallur district, particularly in Yamuna Nagar, residents continued to rely on boats to procure essential items, highlighting the ongoing impact of the inclement weather on the community's daily life.

The aftermath of heavy rainfall left four districts—Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Thiruvallur—affected, with substantial water inundation reported. Despite significant efforts by officials, nearly 90 percent of the water has been drained in these districts. Additionally, Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena reported the restoration of power in Chennai, signifying a positive development in the region's recovery.

However, challenges persist in Nasarathpet near Poonamalli, where the situation remains difficult, and the area continues to be submerged under one foot of water. This underscores the lingering impact of the adverse weather conditions on certain localities, requiring ongoing efforts to address the aftermath of the cyclone and facilitate the return to normalcy.
