In a recent development, Atishi, the Water Minister, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the prolonged delay exceeding two months in appointing Water and Drainage Members in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). This delay has resulted in several projects being at a standstill, as only these technical members possess the authority to provide essential technical approvals. The files related to the appointment of the two most senior technical members have been shuttling between the Delhi Jal Board, the Urban Development Department, and the Services Department.
Atishi, who is also the Chairperson of DJB, highlighted that the concerned Ministers for Water and Urban Development have not received any files regarding these appointments. The reasoning provided is that it is considered a 'Services' matter and, therefore, falls outside the purview of the elected government. Atishi expressed concerns, stating that, at worst, this situation appears to be a conspiracy aimed at bringing DJB to a standstill, and at best, it reflects sheer callousness towards the residents of Delhi.
In response to the situation, Water Minister Atishi has directed the Chief Secretary to take immediate action to ensure that DJB has full-time members for Water, Drainage, and Finance within the next seven working days. This directive emphasizes the urgency of resolving the appointment issues to avoid further disruptions in essential projects and services.
