In Houston, USA, two individuals were taken into custody and charged with assaulting a 67-year-old man, Florentino Hurtado, who has Alzheimer's disease. The incident unfolded when Hurtado, accompanied by his wife, mistakenly approached the wrong car in a local market's parking lot.
Having battled Alzheimer's disease and dementia for the past two years, Hurtado, disoriented, remained in the car while his wife entered the store. Surveillance footage captured him attempting to open the locked door of the incorrect car, prompting Trayvon Lockridge and Deroderic Stephens, presumably the vehicle's owners, to violently attack him.
Lockridge and Stephens brutally assaulted the elderly man, stomping on his head and repeatedly punching him. Following the assault, they seized Hurtado's mobile phone and fled the scene, leaving him injured on the ground.
Subsequently, Hurtado was hospitalized, having suffered a broken cheekbone, a potential traumatic brain injury, a black eye, and several cuts necessitating stitches. The accused individuals were apprehended and charged with aggravated robbery in connection with the incident.
