Reports have emerged from Bihar indicating yet another peculiar incident in the realm of theft, adding to the list of bizarre robberies that previously involved the disappearance of an entire bridge and sections of road. This time, in Darbhanga district, the focus of the purported larceny is a pond, which was allegedly "stolen" overnight, only to have a hut erected in its place.
The targeted water body, identified as a government pond, fell victim to what locals claim is the handiwork of the land mafia. The modus operandi reportedly involved filling the pond with sand and subsequently constructing a hut atop the now-vanished aquatic expanse. Prompted by the noticeable movement of trucks and machinery during the night, vigilant local residents raised the alarm, leading to the intervention of the police.
Of significance, the pond served practical purposes for the community, functioning as a resource for fish farming and watering plants. According to DSP Kumar, the filling of the pond transpired for the last 10-15 days, predominantly under the cover of darkness. Perplexingly, the ownership of the land on which this surreptitious operation occurred remains shrouded in mystery.
In response to this extraordinary "theft," the Darbhanga Police have initiated an investigation to unravel the peculiar circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the pond and the subsequent construction of a hut in its stead. The unfolding narrative adds another layer of intrigue to the landscape of unconventional criminal activities in the region.
