Congress Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi is set to commence the 'Bharat Nyay Yatra,' the second phase of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, starting from January 14. This march, spanning over 6,200 kilometers, will traverse the breadth of the country, initiating from Manipur in the East and concluding in Mumbai, Maharashtra, in the West.
The Bharat Nyay Yatra will span 85 districts across 14 states, covering the regions of Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge will inaugurate the march in Manipur on January 14.
Utilizing buses as the primary mode of transport, the Bharat Nyay Yatra aims to maximize accessibility to the public, with intermittent short stretches of walking throughout the march. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal announced the details during a press conference, emphasizing the youth, women, and marginalized populations as focal points for interaction during the yatra.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra, the precursor to Bharat Nyay Yatra, was initiated on September 7, 2022, from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, covering nearly 4,080 kilometers and concluding in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, in January 2023. It traversed 75 districts in 12 states over 126 days, marking India's lengthiest foot march.
The upcoming Bharat Nyay Yatra's primary focus, according to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, is to reassure the public that economic, social, and political justice is fully accessible. The yatra aims to uphold democracy, preserve the Constitution, and instill confidence in a brighter future for families grappling with inflation and unemployment.
The announcement of the Bharat Nyay Yatra precedes the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where Congress, along with its INDIA bloc members, seeks to challenge the BJP's dominance.
