In the wake of Bhajan Lal Sharma's appointment as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, flanked by Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears poised for a potential change in leadership within the state in the coming days.
Reliable sources suggest that Kailash Choudhary, the Member of Parliament representing Barmer and a Union Minister, is likely to be chosen as the new head of the BJP's Rajasthan unit. This strategic move is perceived as an endeavor to appeal to Jat voters, given Choudhary's background and influence in the community.
Highlighting the significance of Jat voters, a senior BJP official, speaking anonymously, emphasized the critical role they play across 60 assembly seats in Rajasthan. The leader underscored the party's historical contribution to providing reservation to the Jats and acknowledged the recent shift in their voting pattern towards the Congress. The decision to potentially elevate Kailash Choudhary is viewed as part of the BJP's effort to balance caste equations within the state.
If appointed, Choudhary's leadership would complement the BJP's approach of ensuring representation from diverse caste backgrounds. The recent appointment of a Brahmin Chief Minister, along with Deputy Chief Ministers from the Rajput and Dalit communities, underscores the party's commitment to inclusivity.
The senior BJP official also hinted at a potential role for CP Joshi, the current Rajasthan BJP president and Member of Parliament from Chittorgarh, either in the Cabinet or within the party organization at the national level.
Additionally, sources indicate that a cabinet expansion in the state is on the horizon, expected within the next three to four days. It is anticipated that over 80% of the ministers in the expanded cabinet will be below the age of 50, signaling a shift towards a more youthful leadership.
In a bid to deliberate on potential cabinet appointments, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma is scheduled to visit Delhi on a special charter departing from Jaipur. During his visit, he plans to engage with senior party leaders and representatives from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), outlining the party's commitment to constructive discussions and strategic planning for the future.
