Speaking at Agenda Aaj Tak, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma questioned the Congress and Opposition alliance's emphasis on the caste census of Hindus, proposing that a similar census should be conducted for the Muslim community.
During his address, Sarma underscored the significance of conducting a caste census among Muslims as a means of empowering the community. He observed that while the opposition tends to scrutinize Hindus in discussions about caste, there is a genuine need for a comprehensive census of Muslims in the country.
The Chief Minister expressed, "Hindus are our brothers, but Muslims are elder brothers. They must be strong."
In his critique of the opposition, Sarma affirmed that "Hindus have now awakened, pledging not to be divided." He stressed the importance of unity, saying, "We are one; we have two brothers – Hindu and Muslim."
Taking a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, Sarma commented that the Congress leader's strategy backfired in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. He questioned the timing of discussions about the OBC census, suggesting that such issues surface primarily during elections.
Sarma highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's long-standing advocacy for justice for Pasmanda Muslims and underscored the necessity of conducting a caste census within the Muslim community.
During the event, Sarma also mentioned the upcoming legislative action against polygamy, scheduled to be passed on February 4, 2024.
