The Uttar Pradesh cabinet, on Tuesday, granted approval to the recommendations put forth by the Amitabh Kant committee, marking a significant step towards the resumption of flat registrations in the state. This decision is poised to bring relief to a considerable number of homebuyers who have been eagerly anticipating the registration of their flats.
Many homebuyers, despite taking possession of their flats, have been unable to register their properties due to the builders' failure to settle outstanding dues with government authorities. In response to this predicament, the Amitabh Kant committee was instituted to explore solutions for reinstating the flat registration process.
The committee, chaired by Amitabh Kant, proposed a pragmatic approach by suggesting a substantial 30-40 percent rebate for builders. This financial concession is intended to facilitate the settlement of builders' outstanding dues, thus paving the way for the smooth resumption of the flat registration process.
Dhirendra Singh, MLA from the Jewar assembly constituency of Greater Noida, affirmed the cabinet's approval of these recommendations. He remarked, "While past administrations may be held responsible for the challenges faced by homebuyers, the current government is diligently taking every possible step to ensure that homebuyers can finally complete the registry process for their flats."
This decision is expected to extend benefits not only to existing homeowners awaiting flat registration but also to those anticipating possession of their flats soon.
Members of the Amitabh Kant committee, including representatives of flat owners, expressed optimism that the flat registration process is poised to recommence soon. Abhishek Kumar, president of the New Era Flat Owners Welfare Association (Nefowa), emphasized, "With the approved recommendations and the provided rebates to builders during the Covid period, it will be more manageable for builders to clear their dues, facilitating the restart of the registry process."
