There may be a water crisis in some areas of Delhi when the Yamuna's ammonia level rises

Water production levels at Delhi's Wazirabad and Chandrawal treatment plants have been substantially reduced, reaching up to a 50% decrease. This action follows the identification of a significant elevation in pollutant levels, particularly ammonia, exceeding 3.2 ppm, in the Yamuna River water received at the Wazirabad pond.

As a consequence of this reduction in production at the treatment facilities, the supply of water to regions serviced by these plants will experience a noticeable decrease in flow, effective from Saturday evening onwards.

This adjusted water supply is anticipated to persist until an improvement in the prevailing conditions is observed.

Areas that are expected to be impacted by this altered water supply include a broad range of locales such as Civil Lines, Hindu Rao Hospital, Kamla Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Karol Bagh, Pahar Ganj, NDMC areas, Old and New Rajinder Nagar, Patel Nagar (East & West), Baljeet Nagar, Prem Nagar, Inderpuri, along with their surrounding vicinities.

Moreover, regions like Kalkaji, Govindpuri, Tugalkabad, Sangam Vihar, Ambedkar Nagar, Prahladpur, and neighbouring areas, as well as Ramleela Ground, Delhi Gate, Subhash Park, Model Town, Gulabi Bagh, Punjabi Bagh, Jahangirpuri, Moolchand, South Extension, Greater Kailash, and their adjoining localities, including segments within the Cantonment areas and various parts of South Delhi, fall under the purview of the affected areas receiving reduced water supply due to the operational adjustments at these two treatment plants.
