On Tuesday, a Myanmar military plane initially intended to transport Myanmar soldiers, encountered an incident at Lengpui Airport in Mizoram, resulting in injuries to at least six individuals. The event unfolded at approximately 10:19 am when the plane, carrying a total of 14 people, skidded off the runway before reaching the terminal.
Sources indicate that the aircraft was tasked with picking up Myanmar soldiers who had fled the Lawngtlai district due to confrontations between the Myanmar army and the civilian army. Following its landing at Lengpui Airport in Mizoram, the plane experienced a runway mishap.
Video footage of the incident depicts rescue operations underway at the accident site. Last week, a significant number of Myanmarese soldiers, totaling 276, entered Mizoram, with 184 of them being repatriated on Monday. Myanmar Air Force planes facilitated their return from Lengpui Airport near Aizawl to Sittwe in Myanmar's Rakhine state.
The entry of Myanmarese soldiers into Bandukbanga village on January 17, situated at the India-Myanmar-Bangladesh trijunction in southern Mizoram's Lawngtlai district, occurred with arms and ammunition. After approaching the Assam Rifles, they sought refuge in Mizoram following the capture of their camp by 'Arakan Army' fighters.
The Myanmarese soldiers were initially taken to the nearby Assam Rifles camp at Parva, and a majority of them were subsequently relocated to Lunglei, as reported by news agency PTI, quoting an official. Under the supervision of the Assam Rifles, they have been accommodated since then. The situation highlights the complex dynamics involving military movements, cross-border tensions, and the humanitarian aspects of displacement in the region.
