A man from Tamil Nadu was arrested for deceiving a woman on a dating website

A 36-year-old individual hailing from the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu found himself in police custody after being accused of duping a woman residing in Thiruvidaimarudhur of a sum amounting to Rs 3 lakh and 120 grams of gold jewelry.

The alleged scam unfolded when the victim, motivated by the prospects of matrimony, encountered the suspect named Sibichakravarthy on a matrimonial website in November 2023. Under the guise of a false promise of marriage, Sibichakravarthy, taking advantage of the woman's widowhood status, managed to coerce her into relinquishing both her monetary assets and precious jewelry.

Prompted by the victim's formal complaint, law enforcement authorities initiated investigations, forming special teams to track down and apprehend Sibichakravarthy. Preliminary inquiries into the case disclosed that the accused had misrepresented himself on the matrimonial platform, falsely portraying himself as an engineer despite having only completed 12th standard education. His particular focus on widows and the utilization of deceptive photographs were identified as integral components of his deceptive strategies.

Further complicating the matter, it was revealed that Sibichakravarthy had several pending legal cases against him. Upon scrutinizing his mobile phone, law enforcement officers discovered a multitude of images depicting him posing as part of a couple with approximately 80 different women, shedding light on the extent of his dubious activities and potential victim count.
