Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Kerala leader PC George joins the BJP and merges his party

PC George, a seasoned politician, made the decision to align himself with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after engaging in deliberations with representatives from churches across Kerala. This move culminated in his official induction into the BJP, where his party, Kerala Janapaksham (Secular), also merged with the ruling party.

The ceremony marking George's transition to the BJP was attended by prominent figures including Union Ministers Rajeev Chandrasekhar and V Muraleedharan, alongside BJP leaders Prakash Javadekar and Anil Antony, who welcomed him at the party's headquarters in Delhi. Notably, Shaun George, PC George's son and a member of the Kottayam District Panchayat, followed suit and joined the BJP alongside his father.

Addressing the significance of George's entry into the BJP, V Muraleedharan emphasized that it challenges the misconception that the BJP harbors hostility towards minority communities. Echoing this sentiment, Prakash Javadekar hinted at an ongoing trend of Kerala leaders gravitating towards the BJP, suggesting a potential influx of similar alliances in the future.

PC George elucidated that his decision to affiliate with the BJP was informed by extensive consultations with church representatives across Kerala. Furthermore, he indicated that his party's participation in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections would be contingent upon internal deliberations.

Highlighting the culmination of months-long internal discussions within his party, PC George underscored a prevailing sentiment among party members in favor of aligning with the BJP.

In expressing his rationale for joining the BJP, PC George underscored the prevailing socio-political landscape in Kerala, characterizing it by economic challenges and political machinations orchestrated by incumbent alliances. He emphasized the imperative of breaking the cycle of strategic voting between the United Democratic Front (UDF) and Left Democratic Front (LDF), citing instances from previous elections in Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod. He asserted his belief that Kerala's prosperity could be actualized through the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PC George, a seasoned political figure with a distinguished career spanning seven terms as an MLA from the Poonjar constituency, has traversed various political affiliations, including stints with Kerala Congress, Kerala Congress (Joseph), Kerala Congress (Secular), and Kerala Congress (M), in addition to contesting elections as an independent candidate.
