Sukanta Majumdar, the president of BJP West Bengal, strongly condemned the assault on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials that occurred on January 5, branding it as an "anti-India" attack. He called for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The attack transpired in Sandeshkhali when a group of individuals targeted a team of ED officials on January 5. According to reports, the assailants exhibited an intent to cause harm during the raids on Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Sheikh's premises, connected to an alleged ration distribution scam.
Majumdar, during a protest march led by BJP members, accused the West Bengal Police of shielding TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh, whom he alleged to be the mastermind behind the attack on ED officials.
The march, spearheaded by Majumdar and other prominent BJP figures, aimed to reach Sandeshkhali in the North 24 Parganas district. However, the police intervened and attempted to thwart the march by setting up barricades, even as Section 144 was imposed, prohibiting the assembly of more than four people in the area. Undeterred, BJP supporters pushed through the barricades to proceed with the march.
Despite the breach of Section 144, the BJP delegation, comprising five members, later engaged with senior police officers to formally articulate their grievances regarding the incident.
