On Monday, by the agreement signed in 1988, India and Pakistan engaged in the routine exchange of a list detailing their respective nuclear installations. This agreement, prohibiting both nations from targeting each other's atomic facilities, was initiated on December 31, 1988, and officially enforced on January 27, 1991. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) disclosed that this exchange transpired simultaneously through diplomatic channels in New Delhi and Islamabad.
The MEA elaborated, stating, "India and Pakistan today exchanged, through diplomatic channels simultaneously at New Delhi and Islamabad, the list of nuclear installations and facilities, covered under the agreement on the prohibition of attack against nuclear installations and facilities between India and Pakistan."
According to the terms of the pact, both countries are obligated to inform each other about the nuclear installations and facilities to be included in the agreement on the first day of January of each calendar year. The MEA emphasized that this recent exchange marks the 33rd consecutive occurrence of such lists being shared between India and Pakistan, with the initial exchange taking place on January 1, 1992.
