"BJP workers carrying sticks": Rahul Gandhi describes the assault on the Assamese yatra

During a public rally, Rahul Gandhi made an allegation that a group of BJP workers attacked participants of the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam. Speaking in Assam’s Nagaon district, the Wayanad MP claimed that approximately "20-25 BJP workers carrying sticks" positioned themselves in front of the bus he was traveling on during the fourth day of the yatra. According to Gandhi, they swiftly retreated when he exited the bus.

Addressing the incident, he stated, "20-25 BJP workers carrying sticks came in front of our bus, and when I came out of the bus, they ran away...they think that Congress is scared of BJP and RSS, they're dreaming. They can tear as many posters and placards as they want, we don't care. We are not scared of anybody, we are neither scared of PM Narendra Modi nor Assam CM."

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi shared a video on his X (formerly Twitter) account, showing him waving and blowing kisses to a group of men carrying saffron flags. He even stepped out of his bus to interact with them in the presence of security personnel.

On the same day, Rahul Gandhi, along with several other Congress leaders, asserted that BJP workers in Assam's Sonitpur district "manhandled" party MP Jairam Ramesh's car and accompanying camera persons during the yatra.

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, is scheduled to cover 833 km across 17 districts in Assam from January 18 to 25. The yatra commenced from Manipur on January 14 and is slated to conclude in Mumbai on March 20.
