On Monday, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, disclosed that the initiation of oil extraction from a deep-sea project, situated 30 kilometers off the coast of Kakinada in the Krishna Godavari Basin, Andhra Pradesh, took place on January 7.
Puri provided details about the oil extraction, stating, "Yesterday, the first oil was extracted 30 kilometers off the coast of Kakinada in the Krishna Godavari Basin. The project commenced in 2016-17, with some disruptions due to the Covid pandemic, but as of now, four out of the 26 wells are already operational."
He further elaborated, "In addition to the expeditious production of gas, we anticipate reaching a capacity of 45,000 barrels per day by May and June. This output will constitute 7% of our total crude oil production and 7% of our gas production."
The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) also shared this significant development on social media. In its post, ONGC stated, "ONGC commenced its ‘First Oil flow to FPSO’ from Krishna Godavari Deep-Water Block 98/2 (in the Bay of Bengal) on 7 January, nearing completion of Phase-2 of the project. Phase-3, leading to peak Oil and Gas production, is already underway and likely to be over in June 2024."
