In an exclusive interview with India Today TV on Tuesday, Ludhiana Congress MP Ravneet Bittu pressed the party high command to take decisive action against the former Punjab Congress chief, Navjot Singh Sidhu, within a stipulated timeframe of 10 days. Bittu emphasized that for Punjab Congress to attain an iconic status nationally, either Sidhu or the party members needed to be shown the exit.
Ravneet Bittu conveyed that the Directorate of Estates (DoE) found Sidhu's explanation for his continued occupancy of the government-allocated bungalow unsatisfactory. As a result, the government is contemplating the issuance of an eviction notice, urging Sidhu to vacate the premises.
The expulsion of Mahua Moitra from Lok Sabha, which occurred on December 8, led to her allotment cancellation, requiring her to vacate the residence by January 7. In response, she sought legal recourse by approaching the Delhi High Court, which advised her to address the matter with the DoE on January 4.
Mahua Moitra's expulsion ensued after the Lok Sabha's Ethics Committee found her guilty of accepting gifts and illegal gratification in exchange for posing questions in Parliament. The panel initiated an inquiry based on a complaint filed by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.
Bittu also touched upon the infighting within the Congress, attributing the party's loss in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections to internal discord. Regarding the party's alliance with the AAP and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he disclosed that party workers in Punjab urged leaders not to contest together due to AAP's alleged misuse of agencies and police against the Congress.
Expressing his stance on the matter, Bittu disclosed that he would contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Ludhiana seat, a position he has won consecutively for the last three elections. Additionally, he commented on Milind Deora's departure from Congress, emphasizing the importance of standing by the party during both good and challenging times. Deora had joined the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde after leaving the Congress.
