According to sources reported by India Today on Tuesday, the Directorate of Estates (DoE) deemed the explanation provided by former Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra regarding her continued residence in the government-allocated bungalow unsatisfactory.
The DoE is reportedly considering issuing an eviction notice to the expelled Lok Sabha MP, urging her to vacate the allotted bungalow. It was revealed that the DoE had previously dispatched two notices to Moitra, seeking clarification on why she should be granted an extension to vacate the government-provided accommodation.
Moitra, who was expelled from the Lok Sabha on December 8 of the preceding year, had been directed to vacate the residence by January 7 following the cancellation of her allotment. Subsequently, she approached the Delhi High Court to address the matter. However, on January 4, the court advised the TMC leader to submit a request to the DoE seeking permission to continue occupying the government bungalow.
The expulsion of Mahua Moitra from Lok Sabha resulted from the Ethics Committee's findings, which determined her guilt in accepting gifts and illegal gratification from a businessman in exchange for posing questions in Parliament. The committee initiated an inquiry based on a complaint lodged by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who accused Moitra of targeting the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in her questions on behalf of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts.
