Despite a directive from Congress, a Karnataka minister supports three deputy chief ministers

Karnataka Minister KN Rajanna, a prominent Congress figure, has reiterated the importance of having three deputy chief ministers in the state, despite directives from the party's high command to avoid public discussions on the matter.

Rajanna suggested that Congress should adopt a model similar to the BJP, which recently appointed multiple deputy chief ministers to address caste dynamics in the states it secured in the Hindi heartland.

While acknowledging the party's instructions against public statements on the issue, Rajanna stressed the need for the Congress to follow suit, especially with an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He pointed out that even leaders like G Parameshwara and Satish Jarkiholi shared similar views.

Having proposed the idea of multiple deputy chief ministers alongside another Congress MLA, Basavaraj Rayareddy, in September of the previous year, Rajanna maintains that the recent election outcomes in other states underscore the necessity of implementing this approach. Despite the high command's directive to address party and government-related matters within the party forum rather than in the public domain, Rajanna remains steadfast in his stance.
