A 48-year-old woman hailing from Hyderabad has reached out to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, seeking assistance to be rescued from Oman. Allegedly trafficked by a woman named Shenaz Begum under the false pretense of a job offer, Fareeda Begum from Golconda, Hyderabad, claims she was promised employment as a housemaid in Dubai, with a monthly payment of 1,400 Dirhams (approximately Rs 31,700), along with accommodation and meals.
Fareeda's sister, Fahmeeda, revealed that Shenaz assured Fareeda she could return home if she found the job unsatisfactory. On November 4, 2023, Fareeda traveled to the UAE on a 30-day visitor visa. Initially working as a housemaid for an Arab family, Fareeda fell seriously ill after a month and expressed her desire to return home. Allegedly withholding Fareeda's passport, Shenaz Begum, Fahmeeda claims, then trafficked her to Muscat, Oman's capital.
In Muscat, Fareeda was diagnosed with a kidney infection, as stated by her sister. Seeking government assistance, Fahmeeda wrote a letter to EAM Jaishankar on December 28, 2023, to facilitate the rescue of her sister and bring her back to Hyderabad. Additionally, Fareeda made an emotional video plea, whispering her grievances and requesting the central government's intervention, citing her intense pain and the distress of her worried children and husband.
