Due to heavy fog, Delhi is experiencing a cold wave, and a yellow alert has been issued

Parts of Delhi-NCR were shrouded in dense fog on Tuesday as the persistent coldwave conditions gripped northern Indian states. A prior warning from the meteorological department on Monday indicated the likelihood of dense fog in Delhi, prompting the issuance of a yellow alert for the day.

The Safdarjung Observatory in Delhi reported a minimum temperature of 6.9 degrees Celsius, while the Lodhi Road recorded 6.0 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature on the same day. The Palam Observatory noted a minimum temperature of 7.4 degrees Celsius.

The dense fog significantly impacted flight operations in the national capital, resulting in delays on Tuesday. The meteorological department forecasts mainly clear skies for Delhi on Tuesday, with expected maximum and minimum temperatures settling around 18 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively.

As of 0830 hours IST on Tuesday, fog conditions were prevalent, with dense to very dense fog observed in certain parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and isolated regions of Rajasthan and Assam. Additionally, dense fog was reported in portions of Punjab, Delhi, and Bihar.

On Monday, the weather office recorded a maximum temperature of 17.6 degrees Celsius, which was three notches below the season's average. The minimum temperature stood at 6.1 degrees Celsius, compared to the previous day's 4.8 degrees Celsius.

In other states, Rajasthan continued to experience cold weather and dense fog, with Fatehpur in Sikar district registering a low of 1.6 degrees Celsius and Alwar recording a night temperature of 2.8 degrees Celsius. Similar conditions prevailed in Haryana and Punjab, where moderate to dense fog was observed in the morning across most areas. The weather office anticipates the persistence of these weather conditions for the next 24 hours.
