How a 15-year land dispute escalated into a gang war and resulted in the death of a Noida man

The investigation into the shooting incident that resulted in the death of Suraj Mann in Noida on Friday indicates that the motive behind the attack can be traced back to a longstanding feud over a 100-yard plot of land in Delhi, spanning approximately 15 years.

Suraj Mann, a former resident of Khera Khurd Village in Delhi’s North West district, was an Air India crew member and the brother of the notorious gangster Parvesh Mann. The feud in question involves a deep-seated rivalry between Parvesh Mann and Kapil Mann, also known as Kallu, who are both gangsters from the same village. The source of contention is a 100-square-yard piece of land that has been at the center of the dispute between their families for about 15 years.

This protracted feud has allegedly resulted in a series of violent incidents, leading to fatalities within both families. In 2017, Kapil’s uncle Surya Prakash was purportedly murdered, followed by the killings of Parvesh’s cousin Anil Mann and uncle Virendra Mann in 2019, allegedly carried out by Kapil’s gang. Parvesh’s friend Manish Mann survived a shooting during this period. In 2022, Kapil’s father, Ved Prakash, was allegedly killed by Parvesh’s gang.

The recent shooting of Suraj Mann is believed to be an act of retaliation by Kapil's gang for the murder of Kapil’s father. Following the shooting, Noida Police arrested two individuals—Dheeraj Mann, Kapil's brother, and Arun alias Mannu Mann. Both were witnesses in the alleged murder of Kapil's father. Additional individuals involved in the shooting have been identified and are expected to be apprehended soon.

Dheeraj Mann informed the police that Suraj often taunted Kapil, suggesting that the gangster was incapable of avenging his father's death. Moreover, Mannu had previously attacked Suraj, who narrowly escaped harm. The accused revealed that Kapil planned Suraj's murder suspecting that he was earning money in Noida and providing financial assistance to Parvesh. Kapil and Parvesh are currently incarcerated in Delhi's Mandoli jail.

The meticulous planning of the murder involved tracking Suraj's movements, noting down the registration number of his car, and identifying the time he frequented the gym. The assailants executed the attack in broad daylight, firing five rounds at Suraj Mann after he left the gym in Hajipur, Noida Sector 104.
